Carnarvon – Shark bay – Kalbarri

From the dusty sandy desert to the sunny beaches and sailing boats at Carnarvon. Our route has been modified; no longer is it possible to join the community at Exmouth due to the cyclonic weather moving across the ocean. Modifications, manoeuvring and malleability are the keys when taking to the air in light aircraft.  Lucky for all of that analysis.

What a sight to see the ocean, as much as I love the vast, space of the desert, the blue, deep waters where blankets of diamonds look like they are staring up at me, takes my breath away. This is where the desert meets the sea.  I don’t care how cold this water is I am going in. We have arrived in Carnarvon on the weekend and what a boat filled, fishing village it is. Let’s take chilled to a whole new level. I think my brother would fit right in here.

We have connected with other flying buddies on our trip and connecting with others to get more viewpoints on the weather can only serve the success of this little safari. Bill and I need all the help we can in predicting the unpredictable.

Our flight to shark bay is pretty hairy, lets dodge some storm cells, go through some rain and hello there is our window to land this little phoenix. You just have to love the windows of visibility when some cumulus are approaching – yes starting to sound technical – well I am nearly two weeks in – I should be speaking aviation by the time I am home, it will be filled with acronyms, cloud formations and synoptic chart references. I think my conversations are really going to go places.

Shark Bay holds residence to stromatolites these were the first living cell that were essential building blocks for the evolution of more complex life forms. The first bit of oxygen on this incredible planet produced by these guys. This place is magical, I have dolphins, rainbows and all I need are some lollipops and I think I could make a fab chorus for the next no. 1.  Without getting off track, loosing focus, getting lost in evolution or coming out with some great lines for the next  hit on the charts– I love being in this.

Connecting with the people in these towns has been a delight. The inspirational Mary has exposed that youth is not a number and being courageous to leave an abusive relationship can be in any moment, no matter how long you have been in it, how scared you are or how little money you have. Her courage, joy, youth and being will be with me forever. So from the beginning of the earths oxygen with the stromotalites, to the oxygen Mary fed me with her spirit, our journey makes its moves down the coast of Western Australia where the cumulus, Stratocumulus and frontal lifts are taking us there.
